This beautiful 800 year old restored olive mill is tucked away in a secluded and peaceful location amongst the ancient olive groves of rural Axarquia. The history of this mill goes back to the days of the Muslims and in 1270. A.D. was returned to the Christians by the Catholic Kings. The molina was in use till 1954 when the cooperatives in RioGordo took over and continued the work.
The present owners have lovingly and carefully restored the property in traditional style, taking great care to keep all the original features, and using only traditional materials in order to preserve it's unique ambience. Ceilings are all beamed with eucalyptus poles, and floors have either handmade terracotta tiles or the original stone, whilst all the windows have wooden shutters.
The property comprises of two houses: The Millhouse and The Farmhouse although it would be very simple to convert into one beautifully spacious house."
The Millhouse:
The main entrance is into the actual milling room where all the original equipment is still present, from the huge millstones, to the ancient water heating "Caldera" and the Olive press. The floors are of the original stone. The living room has an open stone fireplace, and many features. Double doors open out to the covered terrace. The dining area has a double-height vaulted ceiling, stairs to bedroom 3/study, with fitted storage cupboards under, and double doors to rear courtyard garden.
Kitchen is fully fitted with double sink, gas hob, electric oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and worktops. Door out to a fully equipped summer kitchen with Bbq, and outdoor dining area on a lovely covered terrace.
External stairs lead up to a roof terrace with the most amazing views all round.
Back on the ground floor through the double doors we get into the lovely walled courtyard where there is a good size laundry room, with sink and washing machine. Next to it is a workshop, also a covered veranda.
